How Are Content Views Used?

What Are Content Views?
Content Views are the single usage meter behind everything you do in Trellis — whether you're searching, viewing, downloading, printing on trellis.law directly, or asking an AI assistant (like Claude, ChatGPT, or Trellis Chat) to look something up or research something for you. However you access Trellis, it draws from the same pool.

Your plan includes a set number of Content Views per year. In most cases, one action = one Content View: pulling up a case, opening a document, running a search, downloading a file, etc.

AI assistants
When you ask an AI assistant a question, it may need to look up more than one piece of Trellis data to fully answer you — and each lookup counts as a View. How many Views a question uses mostly comes down to the type of question and how specific it is:

• Narrow questions ("What did Judge Smith rule on the motion to dismiss in case X?") usually uses very few content views and sometimes specific questions like this only need a single lookup → 1 Content View.
• Broad questions ("Summarize Judge Smith's rulings on motions to dismiss this year") may require pulling many cases and many documents → many Content Views.

When AI assistants are asked broad questions, the AI agent autonomously plans and executes its research in order to answer the question to the best of its ability. When using an AI assistant, Trellis does not control how Content Views the AI chooses to review in order to answer a user's question. Nor does Trellis cap how many Views one question, or one prompt, can use — it scales with how much data is needed to answer the question well.
